When one thinks of communion, the first that thing often comes to mind is a person’s first reception of the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, known colloquially as First (Holy) Communion, as practiced by Roman Catholics. However, this is not the communion that is referred to in the wondrous Access Consciousness® body process called Restoration of Communion with Earth.
The dictionary relates communion to the Latin communionem (nominative communio) meaning “fellowship, mutual participation, a sharing.” Later St Augustine believed that the word was derived from com- “with, together” + unus “oneness, union.” Regardless of its origin, the word communion has a sense of togetherness, oneness, participation and sharing. With all this in mind, the body process takes on a whole new world of possibility. It’s, as if, when the body process is run, it allows you to both gift and receive from the Earth in a totally participative way without any sense of disconnection or separation to and from the Earth.
What is the Earth?
Scientifically, the Earth is this big ball of rock and water floating in space around the Sun in our beautiful solar system. Its a small part of a much larger whole called the Milky Way galaxy and then the Universe. However, in the perspective of life on this beautiful planet, the Earth has been and is a part of every aspect of our lives. The Earth provides all our natural resources, produces the air we breath, the water we drink, the food we consume, the oil we burn, the clothes we wear, the electricity we use and the atoms of our bodies. How did we get so lucky to have such a wondrous being – the Earth – contribute so much to us?
Why would a greater connection to the Earth be useful?
Whether we like it or not, we are part of the Earth. However, in this information age, we have lost the sense of communion with the Earth. We tend to see ourselves as superior to it by exploiting its’ resources for profit, releasing toxins into its atmosphere, rivers, lakes and oceans, explode bombs for the purpose of testing, and, above all, engage in judgment which stops and destroys everything in its path.
By developing a greater connection to the Earth, you begin to develop an awareness of how the Earth continually gifts to us. You feel a greater sense of peace and connection to the Earth and everything around you. You also develop an awareness of what the Earth requires of you. However, what the Earth doesn’t require is more judgment; its had enough of that already.
What can you use the body process for?
The body process, Restoration of Communion with Earth, can be used to:
- develop greater connection with the Earth
- assist people who are not connected to their body (some examples of outward manifestations are people who are clumsy, have Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, people who are not present)
- develop greater presence with the body
- develop greater connection with plants and animals
- increase the sense of joy, bliss, nurturing and possibility with the Earth and those around you
- overcome the sense of being frazzled, anxious, panicky and overwhelmed
- people who have sore feet and legs
- address menstrual cramps and other tummy aches
- enhance your ability to know exactly what the Earth requires of you
The process can also be used with people and animals that are in palliative care to allow them to have a greater sense of ease with the dying process.
The Earth, in its infinite kindness, nurturing and caring for us, is also signalling to us all the time when it requires something of us. However, as we have cut ourselves off from this awareness, body manifests it as pain or other discomfort in the body. The process, with its ability to increase our awareness of the Earth, allows us to release body pain and discomfort easier.
When can you run the process?
Honestly, you can the process whenever you like. You can run while walking, sitting, exercising, during a class or any other time or place that you feel appropriate. The process is also one of easiest to run in the suite of Access Consciousness body processes.
